SPR201 - Real SQL Server Deployments (Full day pre-conference session)

Gert Drapers and Tom Davidson; of the SQL Server development team’s Customer Advisory Group, will share their experiences gained during the biggest and most complex deployments of SQL Server.

The day is split in to three main sections:

  1. Hardware tuning and sizing, server consolidation, 32 vs. 64 bit considerations
  2. OLTP design, deployment, scaling and performance optimization
  3. DSS design, deployment, scaling and performance optimization

This is one full day of content covering the most important learning’s from the field, based on real-life experience!

SDV326 - Bulk Loading with .NET (C# and VB.NET)

Need to load data quickly into SQL Server from .NET? This session will show you how to do just that in the fastest way possible using SQL Server’s bulk loader API. You’ll see how to leverage .NET to bulk load data in to SQL Server from file, memory, or other data sources. You’ll learn about the internals of the bulk loader API, and you’ll learn how to leverage your existing .NET and SqlClient to create the most optimal data loader.

SDV328 - Programming DTS in .NET

Learn how to program DTS in .NET so that you are no longer dependent on the DTS Wizard and DTS Designer. Programmatic use of DTS vastly simplifies DTS packages, provides better and more granular control over the execution of the package, allows for parameterization of packages, and eases deployment of DTS packages. Sounds too good to be true? This session will demonstrate how you use any .NET language to achieve just that.

SDB340 - SQL Agent Best Practices

How to best use SQL Agent! What are the best practices for using SQL Agent: how can I restart running jobs after a cluster failover; how to make job independent of your machine; what are the most optimal scheduling techniques; how to build ad hoc jobs; how to achieve code reuse; what is the best way to deploy jobs. These and many more real life scenarios will be covered in detail in combination with detailed examples.

205 - Optimize the .NET SqlClient Performance

Microsoft® ADO.NET provides a newly factored model for relational data access and XML processing. Learn how to most effectively apply SqlClient inside your programs. How to choose between using: DataSets, DataReaders, XML documents and collection classes, how to optimize client and server performance when using SqlClient. This session will outline which models are most appropriate under differing circumstances, and demonstrate what performance tradeoffs and optimizations you can make when using SqlClient.

Primary Goals:

  1. Learn to make the right decision between using the different data model
  2. Learn how to detect client and server performance problems
  3. Learn how to optimize your SqlClient code
